The Oscars have come a long way since their humble start at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in 1929. That private gathering eventually turned into a radio broadcast the next year, and then a televised event in 1953. From then until now, over 3,100 Oscars have been awarded. Currently, the Academy Awards gives out Oscars for up to 24 different categories. These try to take in all the different aspects of making a film – visual effects, screenplays, songs, makeup and hairstyles, actors and actresses, directors, and more.
