A senior in high school from Buffalo, NY was really upset to see the damage caused by protesters. He did not waste any time cleaning up that started around 2 AM and he finished up 10 hours later. His community was so impressed they rewarding him for his hard, unselfish work.
Antonio Gwynn Jr had not given it much thought for his unselfish actions. He wanted to be sure that people would not have problems commuting to work the next day. After seeing the damage on the news, he just decided to help out on the spur of the moment.
The next morning when the cleanup crew arrived at Bailey Avenue to start cleaning away the damage, they were very surprised to see that Antonio had already cleaned up most of the damage.
With the airing of the story on WKBW-TV, word spread really fast when Antonio’s story hit the air. Matt Block, from the community, saw the news and knew what he had to do with his 2004 Mustang convertible that he had previously refused to part with. He told a reporter that he just couldn’t come to terms parting with the car. Once he saw the report he knew exactly what to do with it. He knew someone who would get this car was going to appreciate it.
It seems the car turned out to have a great deal of meaning to Antonio than Matt could have ever imagined. Antonio’s mother passed away in 2018 and she drove a red mustang. He told CNN he was shocked by the coincidence and didn’t have any words. Matt Block said it gave him goosebumps.
A local insurance agent has promised to cover the cost of Antonio’s insurance for one year. Also, Antonio intended to start a trade school in the fall with the goal to save up enough money to attend college. He has now been offered a full scholarship to Medaille College and was totally beside himself when he heard the news.
He was driving at the time with his great aunt and cousin and pulled over to the side of the road and started crying. His aunt and cousin also started crying.
Antonio is involved in many community projects at his church and with Kappa Phi. He said he is grateful for gifts that have helped him out, but above all, he hopes that his actions have made his late mother proud!
