When it comes to movies and media today, some actors and directors stand out more than others. Among the very best directors, though, is Quentin Tarantino. If you have seen movies like Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, and Jackie Brown, you have seen some of his finest works. However, Tarantino – who has a penchant for being in his own movies, often in bit-part roles – is far more than just a prolific movie director.
Given his ability to create movies of all kinds of styles – from serious to slapstick, comedic to charming – he has become one of the best minds within the movie industry in the modern era. Among his most popular works would include Pulp Fiction.
Starring the likes of Uma Thurman, John Travolta, and Bruce Willis, this tells an incredible multi-pronged story that brings all kinds of protagonists into the story. This kind of storytelling has been used many times since and has probably become one of the most prominent ways to bring multiple protagonists into the same plot as one.
One of his other major works, though, is Reservoir Dogs. A movie about a team of smartly dressed heist robbers shows how quickly a robbery can go wrong. The film stood out at the time for a razor-sharp script, shocking levels of violence, and a better look at life through the eyes of a criminal. Release two years before Pulp Fiction, this film played a massive role in establishing Tarantino as the virtuoso expert that he is today.
Arguably his greatest work, at least in the eyes of some, is Kill Bill. This film is regarded as the ultimate revenge flick, about a former assassin who comes back to gain revenge on the people who ruined her life. It’s a unique and enjoyable movie that takes many of its ideas from classic Japanese Samurai movies, whilst blending it with the unique storytelling and acerbic writing that Tarantino has become so famous for.
Not many directors can point to having a trio of films as good as the above three; add in the many other top-class movies he has made, though, and it is easy to see why Tarantino is regarded as a legend within the filmmaking community.
