Ah, the Fall. A polarising time of year. Some of us love the chance to snuggle up and enjoy some late-night TV. Some of us hate the fact the sun goes down before we get up in the morning and before we finish in the evening. If you want to try and improve your feel for the Fall, though, here are some excellent films to watch at this time of year.
Dracula
As the mist sets in the sky, why not set the mood or something spooky with the help of Bram Stoker’s famous Dracula movie?
It is a great film and should give you a fine example of the kind of horror we can enjoy at this time of the year. Better yet, why not wait until Halloween has come around? It is the perfect film to enjoy if you are looking for both spooky scares and some actual professional acting!
October Sky
Another popular choice for fall movie lovers, October Sky is a film that can get you out of your seat and eager to simply achieve more in life. Homer Hickman, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is a teen who wants to take part in rocket science. He wants to become one with the stars but lives in a hometown where such ideas are seen as ludicrous. A great experience, and a film that can teach you to reach for your stars – figurative or literal.
Autumn in New York
A popular choice for many people, this film sees Richard Gere run a restaurant and spend more time picking up ladies than checks. When he falls in love with a woman who could be his daughter, though, things get complicated when he finds out she only has a period of months to live. It’s a bit of a tear-jerker, and it will have you wondering if your initial impressions of the characters were fair. A great watch, but have some handkerchiefs ready to go!
Good Will Hunting
A classic in its own right, Good Will Hunting set both Matt Damon and Ben Affleck on the road to stardom. It involves a plot that sees a Harvard janitor discover he is a genius at mathematics. He works with his psychology professor, Robin Williams, to try and deal with both his past and his uncertain future. A great watch, and a wonderful film to tune into during the colder, quieter months.
